~ Sacrifice ~
Yesterday in Relief Society my mother gave a lesson on sacrifice. While the lesson was good there were a few things that stuck out to me - probably mostly because I had been thinking about it a couple of day prior to this. Nevertheless, I'm sharing my thoughts. Mom had asked us ladies what experiences (in a round about way) we had relating to sacrifice. Ironically it had been on my mind.
On Thursday, while dropping off Marley at dance, she asked me to go in and talk to her teachers (which were mine ages ago). While talking with Debbie about the upcoming schedule she had mentioned how mothers were complaining about this 20 dollar fee that we will be paying to rent the high school to get ready for performances. She continued on to talk about different complaints about this or that and it took me back to my days of dance.
Not only did my mom and dad pay for myself to dance but - at the same time - two of my older sisters. With monthly payments, competition fees, dance shoes, team sweat outfits, pictures, and costumes this couldn't have been cheap. Plus throw in the crazy schedules and extra practices and far away competitions. It couldn't have been easy for a full-time working mom.
With this being said, not ONCE did I ever hear my parents complain. Not once did I hear my mom complain about another payment, another practice, another competition. Not only did she have checks waiting on the kitchen counter for me to take to dance but I always had a ride to and from dance. Except that one time I was left at the studio but eventually I made it home. But that was just one time. Anyway, I was always taken care of without a word of complaint from my busy mom.
It's at this time I want to thank her. We had some great memories which makes it so fun for me to take my daughter back to the same place. I hope I can do as well as you and enjoy the ride. I want these memories for my girls to be happy ones. Thank you for your example. Looking back and knowing what I know now, it couldn't have been easy for you. Yet you sacrificed for myself and my sisters so we could have the experiences that we did.
I truly appreciate you and what you did for me. I hope I can be that kind of mom to my kids.
I love you, Mom.
