Conversations with Marley

We must be having some good conversations with the kids lately because it's all I'm posting!! I'm not necessarily posting these for the enjoyment of the reader but for me and my kids a few years down the road. I'm sure I will forget about this story in a month and it's one I rather remember... even in 20 years!

Picture this: Marley sitting at the kitchen table eating her lunch; a green salad topped with lunch meat, hard boiled egg and of course ranch dressing. We all know her cute little talk, well sometimes it's hard to understand what she says, especially when the letter R is involved. She picks up a piece of the yolk of the egg on her fork and asks...

"Is this a boid?"
(something to that effect)

For the life of me I couldn't figure out what she was saying. Finally she goes...

"You know, tweet tweet!"

Ohhh.... A bird!!! No, it's not, it's an egg!!!

Emma-ism...

It's her first!!

So I'm downstairs changing laundry and on my way up Emma meets me at the top of the stairs. "Mere" she is saying, waving her little fingers at me. I follow her into the girls' room wear I hear a strange humming sound. What the?? I walked in and she points to the hand mixer which she had taken in there, plugged in, and turned on. Oh my, and I thought Marley was curious, she's never plugged things in before!!

Emma, you must be TWO!!!

Corbin #17

"Look Mom, I'm Austin Collie!"

My little Quarter Back. I love his facial expression in this picture.

Made a great catch. After this he caught a great touch down pass.  He landed pretty hard on his back. He was laughing saying that he hurt his butt. I'm glad he's OK. :)

Deflected!

His cousin Tyler (in front) is running the ball. It looks like Corbin is going to go in  for the block. There's that facial expression again!

Conversations with Corbin

Yesterday Corbin learned all about Utah's history. What our state flower is, the state bird, state animal (did you know we have a state animal?), the state bear, and so on and so forth.

Well tonight we went and got the kids pictures taken out in a field with plenty of grasshoppers. He says this...

Corbin: I don't know why I can't kill the grasshoppers, they ate the pioneers crops. Don't they deserve payback?

Marley: What are the pioneers crops?

Corbin: Their food. They could have died. If they would have died you wouldn't have been born.

He's taught me a thing or two (and more) about our Utah history. I'm glad he loves school and that he's learning so much. I'm so proud of him.

Conversations with Marley

While tucking her into bed this conversation went something like this...

Marley: Mom, where is my old backpack?

Me: Still in the van.

(it has a bunch of books in it "for the road" and I believe she wanted to read some of them while going to sleep)

Marley: Crud.

She's never used that word before and I thought it was kind of cute so I say...

Crud? (with a little laugh)

Marley: (while fluffing her pillow and getting comfy nonchalantly says) Ya, it means sh*t.

I had to stop from laughing and quickly correct her and explain that this was a word that would make her get soap on her tongue. I asked her where she heard this and learned it and she said "I dunno, just me." Then she said to ask her kindergarten teacher. I'm wondering if somehow this was talked about in school. I don't know. Sometimes I just don't know.

Conversations with Corbin

This conversation took place tonight at the dinner table.

Colt: What did you do at recess today?
(Colt asked this knowing what the answer would be.)

Corbin: Football.

Colt: (laughed a little) You played football?

Corbin: (nodding) Tryouts.

Me: You had tryouts for a football team?!?!
(now I've heard it all)

Corbin: Ya, we walked to the playground and I pointed. They were like "Nooo way..." I told them to hang upside down from the monkey bars and try and catch the ball.

I laughed, a little nervously, and proceeded to tell him that having his friends try and do things that could possibly hurt them was NOT a good idea. "Use your head," I said.

Corbin: It's been done before.

Me: By who?!?!

Corbin: A guy on the Arizona Cardinals.

Ya, we had a good talk about keep your friends safe after this little conversation.
This kid is ALL about football, I'm starting to get nervous....

Flag Football 2010... Game One

Yea!! Football season is back and this year we (Corbin) gets to play in our hometown. This is the first year our little city has done flag football, it will be nice to be closer to home. Colt is coaching again this year and so far they've had a blast.

Corbin is doing awesome. He seems to have a natural way with this sport but he also works really hard with his dad. You can tell he's improved this past year, he's doing so well! He had a couple of touchdowns in this game and threw a couple of passes that resulted in touch downs. When he was playing defense he even got a kids flag down at the two yard line. He says he got kicked in the face by the runner during that play. He's loving this and it's been so fun to watch!!

Here are a few random pictures from the game. We're the white team, he's number 6 with blue shorts.

Watching his receiver get the touchdown.

Throwing to Logan. This resulted in a touchdown, too.

Run buddy, run!!

I love this picture.

The coach of the red team is in our ward. She wasn't too excited to coach because she doesn't know anything about football. At halftime Colt helped her team and then ended up coaching them for the last half. (My brother coached our team.) I'm glad he took this opportunity to be an example to his young team and his son. I'm glad Corbin is learning something more then football techniques.
They won this game 47 - 13. Good job boys!!

Happy Birthday, Corbin!!

I can't believe my baby boy has turned 8 years old. It has gone by so fast!! I miss my tiny baby boy, my chubby little toddler that was my "bud", and my little man who was going kindergarten and just the "biggest boy ever"!! How I've loved these past 8 years with him. Happy birthday, Corbin!!!

We've had his baptism interview and have already attended his first Cub Scouts Pack Meeting. Here's to you growing up, big guy!!! I love you so much!!!

After watching big brother and big sister get ready and leave for school each day this little one thinks she's ready to go. She's such a doll face. I've enjoyed this time with just her but we sure do miss Bub and Mar.

I love going to tuck the girls in at the end of the day and finding this.

Boondocks

~ Labor Day Weekend ~

We met Grandma and Papa Kierstead at Boondocks to celebrate the kids' birthdays. We miniature golfed, raced the cars, rode the bumper boats, and played in the arcade. We ended up at Wingers for dinner and the kids opened there gifts. What a fun day!
Corbin LOVED miniature golf.
